Olympic silver medallist Amir Khan will face Thamesmead southpaw Ryan Barrett in his ninth professional contest in his home town of Bolton on September 2.
Khan eased to a second-round stoppage win over Scot Colin Bain in his last fight at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff last month, and has not fought at the Bolton Arena since his professional debut win over David Bailey in July last year.
Barrett, 23, has a 12-2-1 record as a professional, but only three of his wins have come inside the distance.
Barrett said: "This is the opportunity that I have been waiting for all of my career and now I've got the chance to step up and show just what I can do.
"If people think I'm going to Bolton to be just a test for Khan then they are very wrong and are in for a shock. I'm not there make him look good in front of the TV viewers and his fans, I'm there to beat him."
The Bolton bill is topped by Clinton Woods' IBF light-heavyweight title defence against Jamaican Glen Johnson.
