Tony Blair's eldest son Euan is being treated in hospital in Barbados.
Downing Street says the 22-year-old went to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, near Bridgetown, on Thursday to be treated for a stomach complaint.
No 10 sources say Euan has not had surgery and his condition is not serious. He is expected to leave hospital later on Friday.
Mr Blair has returned to the UK after a three-week holiday in the Caribbean but his wife Cherie is with Euan.
Downing Street says the prime minister is staying closely in touch with what is happening.
Andrew Zbar, a doctor at the hospital, said he expected Euan to leave the hospital later on Friday.
Professor Zbar said he would be seeing Euan before about 1215 BST to decide whether he could be discharged from the hospital.
Mr Blair delayed joining his wife Cherie and three children on holiday to handle negotiations over the Middle East peace crisis.
Euan recently accepted a place on a two-year masters course in international relations at Ivy League college Yale.
Earlier this year, he finished an internship in Washington with two members of Congress.
Euan hit the headlines as a 16-year-old when he was arrested for being drunk and incapable.
He was found by police officers in Leicester Square, in London's West End, where he had vomited on the pavement.
