"Godfather of Soul" James Brown is to have an arena named after him in his hometown of Augusta, Georgia.
The 8,500-seat Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum will be re-named the James Brown arena, once legal authority for the name change is confirmed.
"I thank God and all the people there," said the 73-year-old singer. "We want to build back Augusta."
The city has already erected a statue of Brown and named a street and music festival after the singer.
The veteran performer is still touring despite suffering a series of legal and health setbacks in recent years.
These include surgery for prostate cancer, domestic abuse charges and a civil action brought against him by a former public relations assistant who alleged he raped her at gunpoint, which was later dismissed.
